DSM Mobile – Why You Need It

Today’s world is filled full of flash, bells and whistles.  DSM Mobile is all that but at Peak we believe you should do things because they make your life easier and ultimately make you more money.  Our goal is to provide you with the tools to make you successful.

Getting Jobs

If you just want to implement DSM Mobile at the minimum level where operators get their jobs, it’s worth it.  Why?  After 25 years working with concrete cutting companies all of the country and even in other parts of the world, one thing is universal.  While “Dispatching” is the life blood of your operation, it is also “choke point.”  Whenever a dispatcher is talking to an operator, they are unavailable to a customer.  Today’s contractors are demanding and if they’re put on hold, they’re calling the next guy on their list.  If the next contractor can do it, you risk losing them as a 1st choice.  Freeing up dispatch is a key element to growing your business.  Reducing stress on your dispatcher is the best way to avoid the constant threat of burnout in that position.

DSM Mobile allows operators to pull their jobs rather than waiting for the dispatcher to text them or coming in the office to pick up a printed copy.  This reduces the opportunity for wasteful chats or hanging out waiting for instructions while dispatch is on the phone.  Sure communication with operators is necessary but they can update their own status codes using the DSM Mobile app and call in just when necessary.

The mobile app also gives the operator the ability to take pictures using their phone and upload them effectively becoming part of the job order.  We have many customers who take before and after photos of the worksite.

Electronic Job Tickets

Mobile or Paperless job tickets are the way of the future which is now.  While this takes a little more effort to implement, it’s worth it.  When the operator finishes the job using DSM Mobile, his part is finished.  This is enforced by the work flow management piece built into the mobile app.  Everything is completed and tucked away where it belongs for future reference.  No more collecting paper and chasing down missing tickets.  The electronic tickets get marked on the schedule immediately as ready for review and many can be billed the same day.

Customers can presented with a tablet to sign off on work that’s done.  This signoff is then emailed to them as their receipt and becomes part of the Job Ticket record in DSM.

While billing can be done completely online, there are cases where it’s useful to have the job tickets in paper form for a salesman who has limited computer skills.  Doing electronic tickets with DSM Mobile doesn’t take this flexibility away from you.  Tickets taken from the field can easily be printed.

The amount of data collected on the Job Ticket is up to you.  If you need information such as equipment utilization or blade tracking this is available.  If you don’t simply turn it off to simplify the operator’s experience.

Inspections

Vehicle inspections are the new norm.  If you’re not doing them, you likely will be in the future.  The real problem is getting everyone to do them, collecting the data and actually looking at them.  DSM Mobile forces it through its workforce management.   Before they can get to their 1st job, the inspection needs to be done.  You can schedule daily and more in depth once month inspections.

When an inspection point fails, DSM Mobile can drill down requiring an explanation.  This reduces the clutter and speeds the flow during the inspection process.

Furthermore you can define the inspection to generate a DSM Service record when an item fails.  If you don’t use DSM’s service module, you can have it email your mechanic with the details.

Lastly the information is nicely tucked away with the truck for future reference.  No collecting, filing or scanning.  It is completely integrated.

JSA and Silica Forms

Most of customers are very concerned about safety and require operators to fill out Job Safety Assessment before each job.  This gets operators thinking of safety and helps them make a plan for a safe and successful job.

DSM Mobile’s workflow management will make sure they get it done.  The JSA won’t be filled out at the end of the job when it’s too late to have impact.

Drill down capability on the form itself hides follow-up questions until needed to make the entry faster and less intimidating.  Effectively you get the form filled out in less time than a paper form with better accuracy.  The end result is an industry standard PDF form displayed in a standard default format or mapped on top of an actual PDF form you may already have.

You can also use its functionality for Silica Compliance forms and additional forms required by customers for specific jobs.  The requirement of these extra forms is controlled in dispatch when they setup the job.  So you won’t add work when you don’t need to.  At the time of order, you can specify an email where the report is to be sent and it will just go there as it’s completed.  It also becomes part of the job and you can refer or email it to anyone at your convenience.  What this means is you setup the form while taking the job, DSM Mobile enforces that the operator does it and the customer gets a copy (if desired) and there is no follow-up task for dispatch.  Literally one action in dispatch sets the whole thing in motion and drives it to completion.

Timecards

Operators care about their timecards since it directly effects their paychecks.  DSM Mobile allows them to review their accrued time so make sure it’s correct.  While they can’t change it once the jobs have been reviewed, they can call the office and have it fixed.  This reduces incorrect paychecks and the following laborious effort of fixing them.

Job Schedule

Login to DSM Mobile is fast and simple and works on any device from a phone to a tablet to a PC.  Being able to flip open your tablet and see all your jobs immediately is empowering.  Typically this is reserved for management but it’s a configurable option you can grant to all the people in your organization that need to know.

Hardware

You need mobile devices to effectively run DSM Mobile.  You can use the operator’s smart phone or a tablet.

If you are simply retrieving jobs, operators can use their smart phone.  The phone is simply an optimized HTML website for mobile input.  The means it doesn’t take up space on their phone nor require periodic updates.  Data usage is minimal.

If you plan to present the mobile app to the customer, most people find it more convenient and professional to use inexpensive cell enabled tablets.

Security

DSM Mobile runs under the umbrella of SSL using standard web security.  It utilizes a simple and fast registration process which assures the app is only run on approved devices.  If an employee leaves, you can recall that registration easily from the DSM desktop application.
